Wounded, Ill & Injured Service Members and Caregivers

Use this guide as the umbrella route when an injury or illness touches medical care, duty status, recovery coordination, disability evaluation, family support, caregiver needs, transition, and later VA benefits.

Start by separating the systems

  • Clinical care: diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and medical records.
  • Duty status: line-of-duty findings, profiles/limitations, orders and service-status records.
  • Fitness/disability: MEB, PEB, IDES or other service disability processes.
  • Recovery support: wounded-warrior/recovery programs, specialty consultations and family support.
  • Caregiver support: current military-family resources and, after service where applicable, VA caregiver programs.
  • Veteran benefits: VA disability, health care, caregiver and other post-service programs.
