Privacy Notice
Effective date: October 12, 2026.
This notice explains information handling in connection with MilitaryClaims.us, an independent public-interest education and research website. It covers our website administration and direct correspondence. WordPress.com, the hosting platform, also processes visitor information under its own notices.
Information you choose to provide
If you email us, we receive your email address, the information in your message, and any attachments you choose to send. We use this information to respond to your inquiry, review corrections, maintain relevant research or administrative records, and address privacy or rights requests.
Please send only the information needed for your inquiry. Do not email unredacted Social Security numbers, account credentials, complete medical files, or other sensitive military or claims records. If a document is necessary, ask about an appropriate way to provide it before sending it. Ordinary email is not a confidential legal intake system.
Information collected through hosting
MilitaryClaims.us is hosted by WordPress.com. Hosting and associated services process technical information such as IP addresses, browser and device information, referring pages, access times, interactions, and approximate location. These services support site delivery, security, statistics, and other platform functions. Their practices are described in Automattic’s Privacy Notice for Visitors.
Cookies, statistics, and your choices
WordPress.com services can use cookies and similar technologies, including measurement pixels. Browser settings can block or remove cookies, but may not prevent every measurement request or preserve every site function. For the platform’s categories and available choices, see Automattic’s Cookie Policy and WordPress.com tracking and opt-out information. If advertising is displayed through the platform, its advertising notices and controls apply to that processing.
Comments and subscriptions
If you use a comment, follow, subscription, or similar WordPress.com feature made available on a page, the platform receives the information requested by that feature. Public comments may be visible to other visitors; account, avatar, and spam-prevention services may also process information. Use the unsubscribe or subscription-management link in platform emails to manage subscriptions. Posting a public comment is different from emailing us privately.
How information may be shared
Relevant correspondence may be accessed by people who administer this website and by service providers used to host the site, operate email, maintain records, or protect against misuse. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, or the integrity of the site. External websites and service providers process information under their own policies.
Sending a story or document does not by itself authorize us to publish it. A proposed public contribution must be addressed separately, including the information to be published and any necessary permission from other people or rights holders.
Retention and security
Correspondence and associated administrative records are retained for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose described here, including follow-up, correction history, research integrity, and applicable recordkeeping obligations. Retention depends on the record and its purpose; hosting providers control their own logs, backups, and retention schedules. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no website or email system can guarantee absolute security.
Privacy requests and corrections
For a question or request concerning information held by MilitaryClaims.us, email director@militaryclaims.us with “Privacy Request” in the subject line. Identify the information or activity involved without sending sensitive identity documents initially. Depending on applicable law and circumstances, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing. We may need proportionate information to verify a request and may need to retain records where a legal requirement or other permitted basis applies.
For information controlled by WordPress.com or another provider, use that provider’s privacy request process as well. Our ability to act on a request is limited to information we control; we cannot delete another provider’s independent records or copies held by third parties.
Children and international visitors
This is a general-audience educational resource intended for service members, veterans, adult family members, and researchers. It is not designed to collect personal records from children. A parent or guardian concerned about information sent by a child should contact us. Visitors outside the United States should understand that hosting, email, and other service providers may process information in the United States or other countries as described in their notices.
Changes and contact
The effective date identifies this version. We will revise this notice when the site’s information practices materially change and provide additional notice where required. Privacy questions: director@militaryclaims.us.
