MNG-042 · SEPARATION & RETIREMENT
Final Move, Household & Address Changes
Close out final household-goods movement, address, banking, beneficiary, tax, DEERS, records-transfer, and post-service contact tasks.
Final-move control list
- Final move entitlement and expiration date
- Transportation office counseling and DPS shipment records
- Household-goods inventory, photos, delivery and claims evidence
- New permanent mailing and physical address
- DEERS and ID-card information
- DFAS/myPay banking and tax information
- VA, TSP and insurance contact information
- Beneficiary and emergency-contact records
- USPS forwarding and important private accounts
Military OneSource’s current separation checklist states that transitioning members generally have one year after leaving active duty to complete the final move. Confirm the actual entitlement and expiration date in the orders and service transportation guidance rather than relying only on a general checklist.
Preserve the closing record
Keep final orders, transportation counseling, shipment records, receipts, address changes, banking confirmations, beneficiary changes and post-service contact information together. A later claim may depend on proving both the entitlement and when the move occurred.
