Household Goods & Personal Property Claims
Navigate household-goods loss and damage claims, DPS, TSP deadlines, full replacement value, military claims offices, and personal-property evidence.
Delivery-day evidence
- Inventory and high-value inventory
- Photos/video before shipment and at delivery
- Delivery documents
- Loss/damage noted while the crew is present
- Receipts, serial numbers, model numbers and repair/replacement evidence
Current deadline map
Military OneSource currently states that for covered household-goods shipments picked up on or after May 15, 2026, the claimant has up to 12 months from delivery to file the itemized claim for full replacement/repair value. Earlier shipments generally remain under the prior nine-month deadline. The loss/damage notice has its own separate deadline; for many modern shipments the current notice period is 180 calendar days after delivery.
Effective-date rule: use the shipment pickup date and the official current instructions. Do not apply the new 12-month period automatically to an older shipment.
Claim pathway
- Notify the TSP of loss/damage within the applicable notice period.
- File the itemized claim in DPS or the instructed channel; the notice alone is not the claim.
- Preserve the TSP’s offer, denial, inspection, repair estimate and payment.
- If unresolved, contact the installation transportation office and the appropriate service military claims office about transfer or further rights.
- Preserve any statutory or service claim separately from the TSP claim.
