FOUNDING SHIP COLLECTION · JAYE MICHAEL SULLIVAN

USS Franklin (CV-13)

USS Franklin is central to VF-13’s 1944 history. The ship’s later history must be connected to Jaye Sullivan only through dated personal evidence.

The 1944 connection

VF-13’s formal chronology reports squadron embarkation on Franklin on 14 March 1944 and combat operations from July through October. The squadron record describes the 30 October attack and the end of its flight operations aboard the damaged ship. These are ship-and-unit anchors for reconstructing the first tour. Do not merge the 1944 and 1945 histories

Franklin’s 19 March 1945 attack belongs to a later deployment and a different air-group context. The official Navy material identifies VF-5 activity that day. The current MilitaryClaims record does not establish Jaye Sullivan’s presence aboard Franklin on 19 March 1945. That remains a scoped research question, not proof of absence.
