Complaints, Grievances & Inspector General Channels

Choose the correct military complaint, grievance, Inspector General, whistleblower, personnel, pay, benefits, or formal-review channel.

Choose the channel by remedy

  • Fraud, waste, abuse or violations with DoD nexus: supporting IG or DoD OIG may be appropriate.
  • Pay/debt problem: finance/DFAS and the authorized protest, waiver or remission process.
  • Personnel record error: service personnel correction or BCMR/BCNR.
  • Medical or benefit denial: the healthcare/benefit appeal identified in the decision.
  • Discrimination/EEO: the applicable EEO/equal-opportunity process.
  • Whistleblower reprisal: use the specific reprisal procedure and preserve protected-communication evidence.

What the DoD Hotline itself says

The DoD OIG Hotline directs complainants to consider their supporting/local IG first and expressly routes certain matters—such as pay issues, military-record corrections and VA matters—to the agencies that actually control those remedies.
